Today’s Valtimax Podcast is going to be all about making the internet work for you. How do we do that? Let me tell you that there are five powerful ways to make the internet work for you. Most people don’t even think about the internet from a strategic perspective. That’s what we’re going to do today. From a strategic perspective we’re going to take the internet apart, put it back together and make it work for you.

The internet is responsible for helping you deliver your message to your target audience in a powerful way and there are three ways the internet helps you do this.

The first thing the internet does is it creates visibility. It creates visibility for you, for your business, for your firm, for your practice if you’re a doctor or a lawyer. If you’re an independent professional the internet helps create visibility for you.

The second thing the internet does is it creates credibility. It makes you an expert. The internet can position you as an expert almost overnight. People who didn’t know you yesterday go to your website today and you educate them and you do it in a way that is nurturing and it develops a long term relationship. All of a sudden you have credibility. These people didn’t know you and today you’re the best thing that ever happened to them because you can solve their problem for them right there on the internet. The internet helps you develop credibility.

The third thing the internet can do for you is it can differentiate you from everyone else who does what you do. Think about that for a minute. It can differentiate you from everyone else who does what you do. This is a delivery system, it’s a form of media. And it can help you gain visibility, it can help improve your credibility and it can differentiate you from everybody else in your market.

That is phenomenally powerful and you have to take notice. You got to sit up and take notice of the internet. Here are the five ways the internet, you can make the internet work for you and here are the five ways the internet can improve your visibility, can improve your credibility and can differentiate you from everyone else who does what you do.

The first way to use the internet to do those three things is to create a website with lots of educational material. Now you heard me correctly. You’re going to go out there and you’re going to educate the general public. You’re going to put up a ton of educational material on your website. You’re going to give people exactly what they need to lead them to the solutions to their problems. What? You heard me right, folks. You’re going to give people exactly what they need so that they could solve the problem on their own if they were capable.

Here’s the truth of the matter. People aren’t capable of solving their problems. Even if you told them exactly what to do they wouldn’t be able to do it. How many people you see out there building their own houses? How many people you see out there removing their own appendix? How many people you see out there representing themselves in court? Very, very few. Yet everybody I meet with is concerned about giving the people the solution to the problem that they’re going to go out and do it themselves. You’re going to give people the step by step guide to removing their appendix and they’re going to do it themselves. What are you, kidding me?

You’re going to give people the step by step guide to representing themselves in court when they’ve been arrested for a DUI and they’re going to do it themselves. No way! You’re going to give people the step by step guide to building their own home and they’re going to do it themselves? Absolutely not! Sure, one percent or a tenth of one percent may try to do it themselves. For those people, great! Go nuts. Because 99% of that one percent will come to you to fix the stuff that they screw up.

Educational material is a fantastic way to help people view you as a credible expert. First thing, the very first way to make your website work for you is to create a website that produces educational content and put it up on the internet so people can see that you’re an expert. Now I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “Oh, my competitors are going to learn all my secrets, oh my god what am I going to do?” All right, if your competitors were that good they’d already know these secrets and they’d be executing them. So you’re not giving away any secrets, okay?

Second of all if your competitors were that good they wouldn’t be looking at your website to figure out what to do. So don’t worry about it. Execution is 99 percent of the effectiveness of running a good law firm, it’s the effectiveness of running a good medical practice, the effectiveness of running a good business. Execution is 99% of it. Putting the educational material on the internet is not going to affect you or your competitors’ relationship in any way.

All right, number two. The second way to leverage the internet and make it work for you to deliver more clients, more patients, more customers, is to learn three different learning modalities. You heard me correctly folks. Three different learning modalities. You’ve got to put video up there, you’ve got to put audio up there and you’ve got to put articles.

Look at our website, Valtimax.com. We have podcasts, this show every single week goes up there. We put up videos, every single week we put up new videos, new how-to videos. Every single week we load up articles, informational articles that people can read and download and share. You’ve to go use three different learning modalities, folks. Because people learn in different ways.

Some people are auditory learners which means they learn by hearing things, that’s why you need the audio. Some people are visual learners, that’s why you need the videos up there and some people are kinesthetic learners which mean they need to touch and feel things.

They’re going to print out your articles, take it with them when they go on the road, take it with them to read when they’re in the waiting room of the doctor’s office, take it with them to read in their office. You got to use as many learning modalities as possible, so make sure you touch people using three different forms of media. Alright.

Tip number three in terms of using the internet to differentiate you, to educate your people so that you have credibility and to help you gain visibility, tip number three is have people go to your website for exclusive content. That’s right folks. You should put up exclusive content on your website that people can’t get anywhere else. You conduct an online webinar that will help people experience your service online, or do something online that people can’t get anywhere else.

Put up exclusive videos, put up exclusive web content, put up exclusive articles. Put up content online that people can’t get anywhere else. Then promote the hell out of it. Tell people, go to my website, to my webinar next Thursday. Take out ads in the paper advertising your webinar. Take out ads in the paper advertising that you put a radio show up live on the internet every Thursday. It’s a phenomenal way to get people to your website.

Put a special offer up on your website so that people will come to your website and use it as a destination. That’s really the key here, that’s what we’re getting at folks. Make your website a destination. If your website becomes a destination, people will come back time and time again. You’ll be able to capture their contact information and you’ll be able to use it to build visibility, credibility and differentiation.

All right, point number four is to make any content about you and your firm or your business on the internet, make it related to the client’s needs. You’re not the best doctor that ever walked the planet. You’re the doctor who solved this problem and created this solution, created this device, developed this prescription. You’re not just the best doctor. You give case studies to show that you’re the best doctor.

Don’t tell them you’re the best, show them you’re the best. That’s the secret to leveraging the internet to promote you. Don’t just tell people how good you are, show people how good you are. If your state permits it and your industry permits it, put up testimonials.

Testimonials in written format with a picture of the person. Testimonials in video format with the person actually telling their story. Testimonials in audio format. Have somebody call up on

the phone into your voice mail and leave the testimonial, get their permission and put it up online. Huge credibility builders on your website. You have to check with your state because state by state testimonials in some industries are legal and some industries are not legal. Check with your state to make sure you can do this.

It’s a powerful way for people to understand how good you are. I don’t want you telling them how good you are, I want you showing them how good you are. Websites that are about you are not websites that clients are going to use when they make a decision. Websites that are about the client, that’s helped the client solve his or her problem are websites that people return to over and over again and that helps build visibility and credibility and it differentiates you from everybody else who does what you do. Your website must contain information that show people how good you are and doesn’t tell people how good you are.

All right the fifth and final point that I want to make about using your website to help you increase your visibility, build your credibility and differentiate you from everyone else who does what you do is you should always make an offer. Every piece of educational material that you put on your website should always have a call to action as a way to deepen the relationships your clients have with you. Let me say that again.

Every piece of information you put on your website should always have a way for the client to deepen his or her relationship with you. If you put up a podcast the podcast should be an invitation to subscribe to more podcast. We just did that at the beginning of this podcast. Told you to go to iTunes, told you to go back to the website each and every single week and check for the updates to the podcast. Told you to go to the website and look for the videos. You have to do that in everything you do. Deepen your relationship with your clients through your website and they will return time and time again. This is a phenomenal way to build your business.

If you’re looking to deepen relationships with your clients everything you do must have a call to action. That call to action doesn’t need to involve spending more money. If your call to action is simply come back here again to see us next week that will help you deepen your relationship with your clients.
