Focus On Focus

What you focus on expands. If you want growth in your business you must focus on creating new client relationships and deepening the relationships with your existing clients. ¬†Many times I meet with business owners who cannot understand why their business hasn’t grown in years and, when we analyze their behavior, we find they are mired deep in the day-to-day details.

This is the classic (now overused to the point of becoming hackneyed) principle of working “in” the business instead of “on” the business.

Shift your focus and concentrate on growth and you will make more decisions that lead to your business attracting, retaining and deepening valuable client relationships.

Focus On Focus

Hi, I’m Dave Lorenzo, and today I want to have a four-minute conversation with you about focus. We really need to focus on the things that are important to us in our lives and in our business. So often I meet with entrepreneurs and business leaders who tell me that growth is an important thing for them. And I ask them, “How much time did you spend yesterday focused on the growth of your company?” A lot of times they can’t answer that question, or the answer to that question is very little of their time.

If you have a goal in mind and you focus on that goal, you’re destined to achieve it. If you don’t focus on that goal, you will never achieve it. The analogy I use is very simple. It’s just like the newspaper. So, when I go to read the newspaper, I put on these glasses. These are my reading glasses. They’re very thick and they help me see things that are close up. When I need to drive, I put on these glasses, because they help me focus on things that are at a distance. If I were to wear the reading glasses to focus on things that are in the distance, I’d have a hard time. In fact, it would be impossible for me to do that. If I were to use my distance glasses to focus on reading the newspaper, I’d be able to do it, but I wouldn’t be able to do it as well as I possibly could.

If you want to focus on growth in your business, you need to spend as much time as you possibly can focusing on the things that are going to enable your growth. So, your marketing, your sales, your business strategy. All those things enable your growth. So if you’re the CEO, you’re the business leader, you’re the owner, focusing your time and attention on growth will lead to future growth for your firm. And this is really your role as the business leader. You can get people to focus on operations. You can find good people to help you build systems. But the focus of the strategy, and the growth of the business rests squarely on the shoulders of you, the business leader.

So take the next four minutes, and really think about where your focus lies, and help enable the growth of your company by focusing on it at least 80% of your time.

Progress And Perfection

Your attention must be on achieving the desired outcome for your client and yourself and not on every little detail. Perfection is the enemy of progress.

Options And Opportunity

When you offer people options they are empowered. Always give people a chance to impact their destiny. This will help you make more deals.

The Close Shave

Where do good ideas come from? Sometimes they come when you are going through your daily routine. Pay attention to them as one new idea can change everything.
